Love Like God Loves Jesus

1 John 3:1: Behold, what manner of love the Father hath bestowed upon us, that we should be called the sons of God: therefore the world knoweth us not, because it knew him not.

John 17:23, 26: I in them, and thou in me, that they may be made perfect in one; and that the world may know that thou hast sent me, and hast loved them, as thou hast loved me. . . . 26 And I have declared unto them thy name, and will declare it: that the love wherewith thou hast loved me may be in them, and I in them.

It is difficult to fathom the truth that the Father loves us sinners with the same love with which He loves Jesus. He loves us who don*t deserve it with the same love that He loves Jesus who does deserve it.

It is also difficult to fathom the truth that that same great love of His is in us when we are His children. When His love is in us we too will love Jesus who deserves it and other sinners who don*t deserve it. I have difficulty loving people who do not deserve it. How about you? Loving others like God loves us is a lofty goal. It is totally out of the reach of our flesh. But by the presence and power of Christ and the Holy Spirit in us we CAN love others like the Father loves us.

Galatians 5:22-23: But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, longsuffering, gentleness, goodness, faith, 23 Meekness, temperance: against such there is no law.

None of these wonderful things are the fruit of my flesh or yours. Our salvation happens in a moment. It is a miracle of God. But it is also a life-long miracle of God and an eternal Miracle of God. We cannot cause that life-long miracle. We can only hinder it or submit to it. It is a miracle of God that we can love others. Have you noticed that miracle happening through you? Do you hinder it or do you submit to it? Do you ask the Lord to help you love others?

Galatians 5:16: This I say then, Walk in the Spirit, and ye shall not fulfil the lust of the flesh.

When we are loving others we are walking in the Spirit. When we do not love others we are not walking in the Spirit. Those are very simple truths. The power to love others is in us. For Christians there is no valid excuse not to. Our flesh looks for excuses. We need to stop looking for excuses. I need to stop looking for excuses.
